Illinois Urological Institute, S.C. offers microsurgical vasovasectomy and vasoepididymostomy using a high powered zoom microscope. These are done as an outpatient under choice of anesthesia. Operative times average 45 minutes/side for v-v and 60 minutes/side for v-e.
As this is often not covered by insurance, we offer a single affordable fee that covers the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and Operating Room (O.R.). (Beware of fees that do not cover the O.R. as you might get a very high bill from the facility). Vas reversal is usually simpler and more cost effective than sperm aspiration and in vitro fertilization techniques.
Success depends highly on how long it has been since the vasectomy, with pregnancy rates around 80% early on but only 30-40% if it has been 10 years or more. In vitro fertilization techniques have pregnancy rates around 35% and can still be employed if the vas reversal fails.
