What is the Prostate and how does it work?   The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It is located just below the bladder and wraps around the uppermost portion of the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder, through the penis, and out of the body). The main function of the prostate gland is to produce fluid for semen. During orgasm, this prostatic fluid combines with sperm (manufactured in the testicles) and other fluids are forced into the ureter, and are ejaculated as semen.
